Third Eye Blind

Third Eye Blind

Third Eye Blind (frequently abbreviated 3eb) is an American alternative rock band formed in the early 1990s in San Francisco. The band’s current line-up is Stephan Jenkins (vocals, guitar), Brad Hargreaves (drums, percussion), Tony Fredianelli (guitar, vocals), and Leo Kremer (bass guitar, vocals).
Half-sung, simple vocal lines, dirty — but not dangerous — guitars, and hummable melodies have made 3EB a bundle of dough. Ex-3EB guitarist Kevin Cadogan filed a multimillion dollar lawsuit against the band, saying he was let go without just cause. “Semi-Charmed Life,” Third Eye Blind’s first Top 40 hit, was a catchy pop song about crystal meth addiction. According to vocalist Stephan Jenkins, Camper Van Beethoven is one of his favorite bands of all-time. Third Eye Blind built their own recording studio in SF, complete with a mixing board used on vintage Rolling Stone sessions.
After the massive success of their eponymous debut album in 1997, the band released one more album, 1999’s Blue, before guitarist Kevin Cadogan was released under circumstances that still elicit controversy among fans. More recently, bassist Arion Salazar has not been playing with the band, and his future as part of the quartet is unclear. Leo Kremer has been filling in for Salazar during concerts, and on the band’s MySpace page, he is now listed as a full time band member.

Incubus

Incubus

Incubus is a Grammy-nominated alternative rock band based out of Calabasas, California. Formed by vocalist Brandon Boyd, lead guitarist Michael Einziger, and drummer Jose Antonio Pasillas II while in high school, the band grew to include bassist Alex Katunich (a.k.a. “Dirk Lance”), and Gavin Koppell (a.k.a. “DJ Lyfe”), both of whom were eventually replaced by bassist Ben Kenney (formerly of The Roots), and DJ Kilmore, respectively.
These friendly nu-metallers have toured with Korn, Limp Bizkit, Black Sabbath, Sugar Ray, the Deftones, and 311. Immortal’s A&R guy was at the Hollywood Palladium to check out Blink-182. He signed the opening band, Incubus, instead. Incubus veer toward precision and subtlety, distinguishing themselves from more ham-fisted peers. When Incubus’ Mike Einziger was 17, he auditioned to be the guitarist in Alanis Morissette’s band. Four high school friends formed Los Angeles-based Incubus in 1991. The band signed with Immortal Records in 1996.
They are known for their eclectic sound, balancing experimental and progressive qualities with pop appeal, earning praise for their ability to change and evolve their music with every subsequent release. Their lyrics touch on a number of different subjects, from their earliest works which touch on drugs and anti-conformity to the later albums which talk about politics to romance, though they primarily display a positive and optimistic view, stressing love and happiness, a lyrical theme in contrast with the dark and angst-ridden perspectives of most of their peers.

White Stripes

White Stripes

The White Stripes is an American alternative rock band from Detroit, Michigan formed in 1997 by guitarist, singer, multi-instrumentalist and songwriter Jack White and drummer/percussionist Meg White, who have remained the consistent line-up. After releasing several singles and three albums within the Detroit independent music scene, The White Stripes rose to prominence in 2002 as part of the garage rock revival movement. Their successful albums, White Blood Cells and Elephant, drew them attention from a large variety of media outlets in the United States and the United Kingdom.
Detroit duo whose love of punk, blues, and piano-led cabaret have made them critical favorites. In 2000, the White Stripes released a three-song EP of Captain Beefheart covers. Among Jack White’s many eccentricities is a penchant for collecting stuffed animal heads. In 2004, Jack White received even more critical acclaim for helping Loretta Lynn record her finest album in years. Jack White and Renee Zellweger were briefly an item. They met on the set of the Anthony Minghella film, “Cold Mountain.”
The White Stripes use a low fidelity, do-it-yourself approach to writing and recording, stressing a raw, minimalistic simplicity of composition and arrangement mostly inspired by punk rock, blues rock, folk rock and country music. The band uses a color scheme of red, white, and black colors and clothing. The band’s latest three albums have each won a Grammy for Best Alternative Album.
