Notorious B.I.G.

Notorious B.I.G.

Christopher George Latore Wallace (May 21, 1972 – March 9, 1997), popularly known as Biggie Smalls (after a gangster in the 1975 film Let’s Do It Again),[1] Big Poppa, Frank White (from the film King of New York), and his primary stage name, The Notorious B.I.G., was an American rapper.
One of the best to ever grip a mic, Biggie’s Bed-Stuy crime tales, player lifestyle, and untimely death made him a legend. His 1994 debut, “Ready To Die,” featured the classic hits “Juicy,” “Big Poppa,” and “One More Chance.” Biggie was murdered in 1997. His posthumous LPs include “Life After Death” and “Born Again.” Biggie helped make stars out of Lil’ Kim, Jay-Z, Ma$e, the Lox, and Puff Daddy. He called himself Frank White after Christopher Walken’s character in the film “King Of New York.”
Born in Brooklyn, New York, Biggie grew up during the peak years of the 1980s’ crack epidemic and started dealing drugs at an early age. When Biggie debuted with the 1994 record Ready to Die, he was a central figure in the East Coast and increased New York’s viability at a time when hip hop was mostly dominated by West Coast artists.[2] The following year, Biggie led his childhood friends to chart success through his protégé group, Junior M.A.F.I.A.

R. Kelly

Robert Sylvester Kelly (born January 8, 1967) better known by his stage name R. Kelly, is an American R&B and pop singer, songwriter and record producer. Debuting in 1992 with the group Public Announcement, Kelly left the group within a year for a successful solo career starting with the album, 12 Play (1993). Since then, Kelly has been known for a collection of hit singles including “Bump N’ Grind”, “I Believe I Can Fly”, “Ignition” and the urban hip-hopera “Trapped in the Closet”.
A successful R&B vocalist, producer and songwriter, R. Kelly has sold more than 20 million albums. Hip-hop beats work with Kelly’s contemporary R&B, but some classic soul influences are heard in his voice and delivery. Such artists as Toni Braxton, Notorious B.I.G., Maxwell and Michael Jackson have solicited R. Kelly’s music-making talents. R. Kelly’s full name is Robert Sylvester Kelly. He was once married to the R&B chanteuse Aaliyah. In 1997, Kelly signed a contract to play professional basketball for the USBL Atlantic City Seagulls.
On June 6, 2002, Kelly was indicted on 21 counts of having sexual intercourse with a minor. The charges, which were later reduced to soliciting a minor for child pornography, stemmed from a video tape allegedly showing Kelly having sex with a 14-year-old girl. To date, Kelly still faces 14 of the original charges. After a six-year delay, the trial officially began jury selection on May 9, 2008, and officially started on May 20 with opening statements from the prosecution and defense. After two weeks, the prosecution’s case wrapped on June 3 while the defense’s wrapped up more than a week later on June 9. The prosecution will call two rebuttal witnesses tomorrow while closing statements will take place on June 12.
